I watched Lily's hardened face as Callie and I breezed by her the first time we circled the track. As a trio of blondes, we all were far from disheartened by Callie's fourth in the Kentucky Derby and the filly was the most affected. During the workouts after the loss, the filly had put her head really far down and just ran her heart out. The filly was putting forth her best effort now in this two lap workout. Her breathing was hardly affected as we continued our gallop. She was working hard but it seemed like she lost a little gusto in the Derby. The only thing to do now was to push her further to see if she would regain her tenacity. To see Lily so hardened really made me upset and the only way to fix it would be to boost Callie's workouts so now we were pushing even before the backstretch. The buckskin's ears were flat against her head in concentration as she continued on to finish her workout. I sat back in the saddle now, her muscles moving at a fluid motion as we slowed from gallop to hand gallop to canter to trot and then finally a walk. She was sweated up but she seemed proud of herself. She nickered lightly to Lily as we came over to her by the rail. The blonde girl took the filly by the bridle and looked up at me, squinting.

I know you both can do it, just work hard up until then.

I took into account all of Lily's suggestions as I breezed with my co-worker, Joshua and his dappled gray unbroken maiden. Honestly, Callie has been well worked over the last few months and her stamina was incredible. We had worked her with every type of dirt horse we had in the barn and she showed a clear command over every one of them, even the shortest distance runner, WB Starlit Thunder. Granted, the three year old buckskin filly I rode had a lot more experience over the younger dark bay but even so, she was able to overpower with her closing kick and ability to keep up with fast speeds set by her blazing partner. Now we rode with the maiden mostly for his benefit. He didn't have much experience but Roger had high hopes for the coltine and therefore, he requested that we work with him.

I glanced over at the coltine who was at our shoulder and saw the immaturity in his eyes. He had the same racing distance as Callie but was much more speedy at the beginning, ready to taper by the end of long distances if Josh was sleeping up in the saddle. Fortunately for the little coltine, Josh usually rode the crazy bay mare, Nista, making him a lot more alert than some of the other riders... Like me, considering I was discussing it with you while I rode my filly. Callie wasn't even breathing hard as we galloped down the backstretch in front of the younger coltine. He was keeping up well, his auds pricked forward as Josh continued to encourage him around the turns.

It was a good habit to get the horses to work around the corners because then they can't think they can slack and then it will soon become habit. The dappled gray was already showing signs of knowing this little trick and galloped off of Josh's urgings and slowly Josh lightened his urgings as the colt responded beautifully. We galloped now down the back stretch, Callie eased into a long flowing stride while Keegan had to work a little harder with a shorter stride. I smiled lightly as I leaned back in my saddle and the four of us slowed. I offered Josh a light smile now and teased him and his colt lightly as the dappled gray flirted with my buckskin. Callie was having none of it today, she only had eyes for her competitor, Radiance.

Good attempt, little boys!

Race Name: Studley Dudley
Barn Name: Studley
Breed: Thoroughbred
Gender: colt
Age: 3 [2006]
Color: bay
Markings: one back sock
Height: WMT 16.2 hh
Dam: unknown
Sire: unknown
Breeder: unknown
Trainer: Green Horse Stables
Owner/Usual Rider: Green Horse Stables & Cold Creek Inc. / Dylan Miller
Discipline: flat racing
Race Points: 1400
Website Inhabited: Green Horse Fields

QUICK RACING STATS FOR GHF:
Grade: 4
Distance: 8-14 furlongs
Surface: turf
Track Conditions: unaffected

"If you've ever read the THOROUGHBRED series, Studley Dudley could compare to the Triple Crown winner and Dubai World Cup winner Wonder's Champion. Or the grey stallion March To Glory, who won the Breeder's Cup Classic by thirty lengths and set a world record. Studley is strong willed, rambunctious, rebellious, high-strung and affectionate. He bonded with Sarah Star, his owner and jockey, the day they met, and since they have had a happy partnership both on and off the track. Studley is astonishingly fast and he loves to win. He runs for himself, Sarah, and Green Horse Stables. He loves the exhilaration of flying past the other colts and fillies down the stretch, and amazingly, we have never had a problem with him in the gate. In fact, he's even trotted into the gate once or twice. He's not an aggressive colt, but due to his strong willed personality he is certainly not a ride for an inexperienced jockey. Usually only Sarah rides him, so this isn't a problem for Green Horse Stables." Upon arrival at CCI, we were nervous that Studley would not find a comparable jockey to Sarah Star over at GHS. Lucky enough for us, we got the right match on the first try with our show rider, turned racing fanatic, Dylan Miller. Dylan's goofy personality helped Studley ease up and the bay coltine seems more than happy to listen to our favorite idiot. On the track, Studley really just loves to run and in the stable, we are thrilled that he is mostly behaved (although we have run into a couple episodes where he showed us how strong-willed he could be). We are happy to have Studley with us and can't wait to see how he progresses!

Come on, sweet thing!

The dark bay filly underneath me flicked an ear towards my vocals, her bright brown eyes scanning the area around her eagerly. This was her first time on the trails alone and with any other horse, these familiar surroundings could possibly turn into horse-eating dangers. Lila was nowhere near that point and she glanced around with an interest that was hard to find in a two year old thoroughbred. With a flick of her tail, I knew she was ready to breeze through the forest, a nice break from the monotony of the track. Her bright white blaze lit up in the dimly covered wooded area and I clucked to her lightly. She took my signal with a quickness of reflexes and we were off.

The sound of her thundering hooves reminded me of the wins I had had on racers in the past. Lila had been losing recently and that discouraged me. However, the filly was game to keep trying. She just lacked the volatile behaviors of other racers her age. I just needed to get her to shoot off like others did. I asked for a bit more speed and the filly responded beautifully, going off of my leg in a great long, sweeping stride. She was a sprinter but had the length of stride of a huge long-distance runner. I leaned further down and I heard her ask for a little more rein. I gave it to her and she revved up her speed to more of a quick gallop. Auds pricked forward, I saw a happiness in her here that she lacked on the track.

Then I realized. She needed to breeze out here rather than on the track so she didn't get bored. Her muscles flexed as I felt her pace increase even more than it ever had on the track. If I limited her breezes on the tracks, then she would be more interested when she ran in a race. The epiphany I just had left me at ease as the filly underneath me galloped at a blinding pace. Hearing the hoof steps of a horse ahead of us, I leaned back into my saddle softly. Lila snorted now, shaking her head, wanting to gallop in this fun and invigorating place more. I glanced up at the rider on the equine and offered a sweet smile as Lila finally slowed to a walk.

Up for a little race?

« Result #6 on Sept 18, 2009, 7:14pm »

Connor has gone to a young girl's home to help make her riding dreams come true. Roger is sorry to see his gelding go but knows that he will have a better life with this little girl. (Stopped riding with the trainer who owns real-life Connor so the SIM one is being hidden!)

Race Name: Key To Flight
Barn Name: Keegan
Breed: Thoroughbred
Gender: colt
Age: 2 [2007]
Color: dappled gray
Markings: none
Height: WMT 15.3 hh
Dam: Grey Key
Sire: Cornix's Flight
Breeder: Shining Star Stables
Trainer: Cold Creek Inc.
Owner/Usual Rider: Cold Creek Inc. / Joshua Stevenson
Discipline: flat racing
Race Points: 150
Website Inhabited: Green Horse Fields

QUICK RACING STATS FOR GHF:
Grade: 5
Distance: 8-12 furlongs
Surface: dirt
Track Conditions: heavily affected

Keegan is an all-around good guy and is generally well-behaved. However, when he's in one of his moods, he can be serious trouble. He's got a really curious and mischevious personality. Even on the track, he can lose focus and go for bucking rants for a while. To make him listen, we have assigned his jockey to be Joshua, the same fellow who deals with the insanity that is Fashionista. Josh scoffs at this fellow after being almost killed numerous times by the bay filly but he still has to keep thinking while riding him. Keegan is a really impressive closer if Joshua can keep his focus. He's a two year old colt, what do you expect from him? He's obsessed with girls and often follows them around and does the whole stallion thing around them. He wears blinkers on the track and that keeps his focus somewhat but if a flash of a camera catches his eye, he knows when he can get Joshua with his pants down, so to speak. Around the barn, Keegan is less than a pleasure. He often escapes from his stall and coordinates rebellions with the other colts who don't know any better than to follow him blindly. Josh is still getting used to the dappled gray coltine's antics but once Keegan matures and Josh gets a better idea of what he is capable of, we know that these two will be an unstoppable pair.

Key To Flight made an impressive debut, almost closing in on Limitless Time and Fatal Attraction due to overall freshness over the other competitors. I'm looking forward to following him on his journey. - [Ripley]
