Surprise was originally purchased from a yearling sale as a barely broken racing colt and was CCI's first racehorse to be quickly joined by Jet Ski. Roger devoted a large part of his time to Surprise's training as a racehorse and later as a western horse and it was all not in vain! He raced successfully for 55 races and won a good percentage of them. He went much farther than expected and some highlights of his racing career include his run in the Augusto Stakes and his DTC performance with sister stable, TDI. He was retrained after successfully completing his career to go western, a strange job change for a thoroughbred. He has surfaced in the western world and despite his upfront disadvantage of not being a stock horse, he has really stepped it up on those silly cow horses. He is one of the only thoroughbreds in the business and is extremely unique, successfully competing for a while now. He loves to work the cows and enjoys the complicated movements of reining. He's a sweetheart around the barn and still loves to race out in the field with the other horses, usually winning. His bubble-gummy personality is refreshing in a stable of serious show horses and his gusto towards western is really quite cute. Surprise returned to us November 2008 for a bit more western training and will retire to sire a few more foals. His oldest foal is owned by us as well and has been extremely successful on the track. We are so glad to have our Surprise back with us.

Toledo Surprise used to be a racehorse, and he wasn't too shabby on the track. Then he retired and became a western show horse, something very few of his Thoroughbred breed can do. His foals are amazing, and his record is amazing [showing and racing]. It's obvious that he's one to watch out for. - [Sunfrost]
I love his coat colour! Keep up the great work. He's lovely.- [Gemma]
